Jon Bowlby has been sucked in to do tonight's interview. We had a chat, him wearing a comfy looking striped T-shirt and munching a handful of Doritos and some cookies we found in the green room, me hunched over my keyboard. Jon is playing Jack, the fellow who keeps an eye on the four boys, trying to keep them on the straight and narrow and from buying too many boxes of Wheaties. Jack is divorced, is going crazy in his job, and becoming frustrated with life in general.
Tonight everyone was off prompt, no longer allowed to call for help from the stage manager when they couldn't think what came next. Jon says he did all right, that he feels he's getting the lines down fairly solidly, and can now move on from thinking about words to what he's actually trying to tell the audience.
In real life, Jon is a married father to three. He spends his days working as a historian who translates dry, dusty history into more user-friendly understandability. He gives demonstrations in shooting arrows waaaay high into the air. He just gave me a few very interesting tidbits on the various peoples who populated this area hundreds of years ago, before Europeans came along with their livestock, new diseases and Facebook addictions.
Jon has been acting since 1987, a bit spottily at first, but has since settled down into a routine of shows. The first play he acted in was "Of Mice and Men", playing Whit. This is his first show with OCT.
